Quiénes Somos

El Departamento de Física de la Universidad Técnica Federico Santa María (UTFSM) fue creado el año 1977 y físicamente se localizó en el Edificio E del campus universitario de Valparaíso, lugar que sigue ocupando actualmente. Esta unidad forma parte armónica de nuestra universidad, institución que principalmente orienta sus actividades a la formación de profesionales en las diversas áreas de la ingeniería, ciencia y tecnología.

En el año 1970, a través del Consejo Superior de la UTFSM, se aprueba la creación del programa de Magíster en Ciencias mención Física y se inicia formalmente en el año 1981, luego de que se aprobaran, por parte del Consejo Académico, los planes de estudios respectivos.

En el año 1984 se crea la Licenciatura en Ciencias mención Física, cuyo ingreso se realiza a través de Plan Común de Ingeniería. A contar del año 2013, esta carrera tiene ingreso directo vía PSU. Durante el año XXXX el programa de estudios es revisado y se realizan mejoras a su malla curricular y además el nombre cambia a Licenciatura en Física.

En el año 1992 se crea el programa de Doctorado en Ciencias mención Física.

El Departamento de Física comenzó a impartir docencia regular en Santiago desde que la Universidad abrió la Casona El Golf el año 1996. En este emplazamiento se dictaron asignaturas de los programas de Plan Común de Ingeniería Civiles y Ejecución.

En septiembre de 1998, se presenta ante las autoridades universitarias el proyecto para el Programa Conjunto de Doctorado en Ciencias Físicas, entre la UTFSM y la Pontificia Universidad Católica de Valparaíso. En el año 20XX el programa realiza un exitoso proceso de revisión curricular donde además se cambia el nombre del programa a Doctorado en Ciencias Físicas.

En el año 2000 la Universidad añadió el actual Campus Vitacura a sus dependencias, donde nuestro Departamento tomó la responsabilidad de impartir las asignaturas del ciclo básico de Carreras de Ingeniarías Civiles y de la Academia de Ciencias Aeronáuticas (ACA).

El año 2009, se crea el Campus San Joaquín de nuestra Universidad donde el Departamento de Física ha participado activamente dictando asignaturas del ciclo básico.

En el año 20XX se abre la carrera de Licenciatura en Astrofísica, que se dicta tanto en Casa Central como en Campus San Joaquín, y además se abre la carrera de Licenciatura en Física en Campus San Joaquín.
